So I read this book and wrote this review a while ago but since the second one just came out I figured I’d post it here 🙂
Alienated by Melissa Landers
Let me start off by saying that I am not a huge Sci-Fi/alien/outer-space reader so my expectations weren’t all that high. An Instagram account I follow kept talking about it and then my friend started talking about it so I figured there’s no harm in seeing what all the hype’s about.
The book is written by Melissa Landers and is the start of the Alienated series. The length of the series is currently undecided but the sequel, Invaded, is set to come out in February 2015. The story: WE ARE NOT ALONE IN THIS UNIVERSE! There’s this planet called L’eihr with all these really intelligent people, cool gadgets, and very advanced technology. Two years ago, they made contact with Earth. Now, there’s some interplanetary exchange program where humans live on L’eihr and L’eihr aliens live on Earth. This girl, Cara Sweeney, is one of the first people to house an alien and the kids at her school are soooo not on-board. It would seem the L’eihr kids aren’t so thrilled either. Aelyx (‘A-licks’) and his buddies are plotting a little sabotage of their own… but will a certain redheaded human make him change his mind?
As I mentioned before, this is the first alien-y book I’ve read. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first but I was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely fantastic, but it was good enough to make me want to read some more of this genre. Alienated is quite a light read and fairly easy to follow. Romantic too—the chemistry between Aelyx and Cara is nearly palpable. However, I was hoping there’d be more action. Sure, there’s plenty of conflict but I felt it takes too long for the issues to develop into something substantial. Don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely some action, it’s just that most of the big stuff doesn’t come in until the end. It builds at a fairly steady pace until… BOOM BOOM BOOM. Everything hits all at once. I think a lot of Alienated was meant to set the stage for the sequel, Invaded (which I will definitely be reading). Long story short, I enjoyed it. If you’re a fan of romance and aliens and you want a quick, light read, I suggest you pick it up.
